Visual Identity of a Level is very important, especially so in a Racing Game, because the Players constantly revisit tracks. Players should be able to distinguish each of the Tracks easily and immediately from one another. Good naming is a good way to keep track of the track names, but colors will help to reinforce the connection, either consciously or sub-consciously.

This thought came to mind while working on some of the level designs for Lone Wolf, and when conducting interviews for some level designers applicants.

There seems to be some egotistical desire for some level designers to want to kill or punish the Player. Sometimes it just feels like, to them, level design is the thousand and one ways I can kill the Player. I wonder: will the level designer himself gain anything by doing so?
